In the second installment of my department blogging, I took a look at a digital movement that seeks to challenge the idea that museums shouldn’t take hard stances or engage in political or societal issues.
I tied in Memory Studies, which says that everything we know about the present is created by a past that is constructed and contested. #MuseumsAreNotNeutral is an agent of change because it’s shaking up the traditional structure/power dynamics of museums, making us all take a closer look at who’s version of story is being shared and how to redefine that.
The real work starts after the exhibits are over.
